Free Movers - or "visiting students" - are students who are neither enrolled in a degree programme, nor participating in an exchange programme organised by the university (such as Erasmus), but who choose to organise their own study abroad.
To be eligible to take courses at Host University and have the recognition of the performed teaching activity in the Study Plan, students must obtain authorization from Home Faculty and admission from the Host University.
1. Contact the Host University in order to inquire about the availability of courses you wish to attend and the costs of the courses. Please note that the costs of enrollment at the Host University are the sole responsibility of the student; similarly, you must be up-to-date with your Sapienza tuition fees.
2. Obtain a Letter of Acceptance from the Host University for the courses you wish to attend.
3. Once you have identified the courses you wish to attend, contact the President of your Courses of Study at Sapienza and obtain authorization to attend the courses abroad and for future exams recognition upon your return to Italy. You must show the Professor the Letter of Acceptance from the Host University.
4. Submit your "free mover" application to the Academic Office of your Department, specifying which course(s) you intend to take and attaching the Acceptance Letter from the Host University (see point 2) and the authorization from the Sapienza Professor (see point 3). The Academic Office will forward the request to the Faculty Council, or the competent collegial body, which will decide on the recognition of exams taken abroad.
5. Within twenty days of returning from the Host University, submit to the Faculty Council the certification obtained from the Host University for each exam taken, translated into Italian, indicating the corresponding exam at Sapienza and the conversion of the grade out of thirtieths.
6. If all the above rules are not followed, the exams taken abroad will not be recognized as valid for inclusion in your academic career by the Academic Office.
7. Since this is not a community program, you must personally organize your stay abroad (food, accommodation, healthcare, etc.).
